Calabash Night - Yankari and Vanguard Sessionz

In kitchens across the African Continent, gourds made from the Calabash tree serve as traditional cooking pots. Many different ingredients go into a Calabash before a soup is complete.

Similarly, Orogun Media’s Calabash Nights—a quarterly Afrobeat, hiphop & rnb series at the Sugar Club—explores a rich musical concoction featuring Dublin’s finest underground acts and tried and true dj’s.

Each event in this series connects audiences from different communities through collaborative music, film, storytelling, food, and dance, drawing from the immense diaspora talent that abounds in the city. To close each night, we’ve invited some of our favorite DJs from across the country to share their collections with us and take us on a trip.
