New Years Eve Playback presents Stop Making Sense
You’ve watched the film in its original version and stunning 4K re-release. You’ve bought the album and danced at the screenings. Now, four decades on from its original release, Playback bring you a live re-enactment of Talking Heads’ classic concert film Stop Making Sense. Floor lamp? Check. Big suit? Check. A tape they’d like to play? Check. Come, watch and dance the night away as the band blasts through classics like “Psycho Killer”, “Once in a Lifetime”, “Burning Down the House” and “This Must Be the Place”. After the last chord of “Crosseyed and Painless” has faded away, stay for encores selected from among Talking Heads’ greatest hits. There’s truly something for everyone!
Playback is a “concept tribute” band. They cover specific albums or periods of various band’s careers, then round out their sets with a selection of the artist’s greatest hits. So far their repertoire includes Bob Dylan’s mid-’60s electric period, David Bowie’s mid-’70s statements Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs and Young Americans, and Talking Heads’ iconic Stop Making Sense. They’ve taken their “Still Don’t Make No Sense: The Music of Stop Making Sense” show all over the country, from Wicklow to Kilkenny to Kildare to Tipperary to Galway; have headlined several Dublin Bowie Festival shows and played to packed audiences at All Together Now; and have performed in venues such as the Sugar Club, Opium, the Button Factory and the historic Ambassador Theatre.
