About Performing Resistance Cultures Festival: Algerian Irish Musical Encounters

The festival examines points of comparison between the historical and cultural narratives of Algeria and Ireland.  Events include unique screenings & panel discussions on oral traditions and resistance by Algerian and Irish women, a screening of Irish-Algerian documentary El Gusto (2012) which relates the moving story of Jewish & Muslim musicians from Algiers who reunite 50 years after their separation; discussions on the important contributions made by the Traveller community to Irish traditional music; and a spectacular evening concert by AKLI. D. with special guests Niamh Dunne, Paul Harrigan, Dermot Sheedy, & Orfhlaith Ní Bhriain.
