Les Amazones d’Afrique is a musical collective formed in Bamako, Mali, in 2014 by Malian stars Mamani Keïta, Oumou Sangaré, and Mariam Doumbia. The group unites female artists from Africa and the diaspora to advocate for women’s and girls’ rights through powerful and harmonious music.Their debut album République Amazone included contributions from artists like Angélique Kidjo and Nneka, and was praised by President Obama in 2017. In 2020, they released their second album Amazones Power, featuring both established and emerging voices in African music; the group has performed at major festivals like Glastonbury and WOMAD, blending pan-African styles with contemporary pop and the innovative production of Doctor L, all while promoting gender equality and social change.
