About Chancha Via Circuito (DJ Set)

Chancha via Circuito is a symbol of sonic unity across South America, his stage becomes a custom-made experience to deploy his massive array of downtempo, cumbia-style minimalism and Latin American beats.

Pedro Canale alias Chancha Via Circuito processes Brazil rhythms, Paraguayan harps, Andean mystic, folklore from the Argentinian Pampa and – of course – cumbia. His seductive formula became a key reference for many artists of the Latin American electronic music scene. With the album Rio Arriba (2012) Chancha brings South American folklore to the dancefloors across the world and his iconic remix of José Larralde’s “Quimey Neuquén” was chosen for the TV series Breaking Bad.

Pedro Canale is regarded as a cult artist for the most avant-garde electronic music circles. This characteristic has led him to be part of the program of festials such as Mutek Montreal, Roskilde (Denmark), Sonar (Spain), Calvi on the Rocks (France) and Vive Latino (México). Besides, he has gotten the attention and applause of prestigious media like Pitchfork, NPR, BBC, KEXP, Radio3, Earmilk, MTV Iggy, Vice, and The Fader.

Chancha Via Circuito’s record Amansara (2014) was released by the Belgian record label Crammed Disc in Europe and Asia, and by Wonderwheel Recordings in the US and Oceania. In 2018, four years later, in the midst of notable global turbulence, Chancha brought us his highly anticipated album Bienaventuranza – a word that essentially means bliss in 2018. Replete with his signature touches of Andean instruments (think lots of flute and charango), the folkloric elements on this album blend fluidly with danceable and digestible electronic beats.

His dreamy streak continues with the Cereminia EP (2021) in collaboration with Luvi Torres who brings ancestorial and sacred sounding vocals as well as the Al Sur EP (2022) with the upcoming Argentinian singer songwriter Loli Molina.

The eleven tracks on the album La Estrella out in November 2022 move between lush instrumental soundscapes, as seen in the first track “Dandeleon,” and upbeat vocal pieces, all linked by Pedro’s signature production style. Joining him as guests: the well-known Colombian-Canadian singer Lido Pimienta, who has often collaborated with Pedro. She sings on the track “Amor en Silencio” to syncopated xylophone chords. Argentine folk-fusion trio Fémina continues the album’s heavenly theme in the song “Cometa,” with its harmony vocals over percussion and xylophone chords, linking it to themes of spirituality, love, transience and nature. Chancha will tour through Europe in summer 2023 to celebrate and share this release.
